Just got back from the European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona.

Just got back from the European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona. My main takeaway: banks want to go on-chain, but they can't get there the way crypto does.  → RWA infrastructure was everywhere. Tokenized real estate, tokenized funds, tokenized deposits. Honestly, it felt like every second company there was doing tokenization 🔥 → Talked to quite a few people from banks and funds. They are looking for reliable rails to manage liquidity at scale, and many of them are really interested in using RWA tokens as collateral in DeFi money markets. They want it, they just don't know yet how to do it properly or how to hedge the risks. → Monika Schöning from ING said something I liked: tokenized deposits are just deposits, the hard part is payments.  Most of a bank's logic sits in settlement between counterparties inside its own system. Accepting a payment from a chain and processing it inside a completely different architecture is a serious integration challenge. → Then there's liquidity, which I don't think gets talked about enough. In a bank, A sends $100 to B and B sends $95 back. The bank only settles the $5 difference. On-chain, everyone settles from their own wallet, so the same thing needs $195 of liquidity to move $5. So, where will banks source that liquidity once they move on-chain? Nobody has a good answer yet. People keep saying full adoption will take 10 to 20 years. Tbh, I don't buy it. If we start building now, the core of it can be ready in 5. This is the kind of problem we want to solve at Whitechain. We're still early and mostly listening right now, but after Barcelona, we have a much better idea of what to build first. Building something that needs the right blockchain partner? Send me a DM, let's have a chat 👀     #Blockchain #RWA #Tokenization #Payments #Whitechain

  • Banks are interested in on-chain operations and RWA tokenization for collateral in DeFi, but face significant integration and liquidity challenges.
  • Key hurdles include payment processing between traditional and blockchain systems and the vastly different liquidity requirements for on-chain settlements.
  • Despite these challenges, there's optimism that core infrastructure can be built within 5 years, with companies like Whitechain aiming to address these problems.

Pantera's September 2026 State of Tokenization report shows that building the market around is not around issuing tokenisation.

Pantera's September 2026 State of Tokenization report shows that building the market around is not around issuing tokenisation. https://lnkd.in/eiTUahmk The baseline: 671 tracked assets, $331.8bn. Stablecoins are $295.5bn of that, or 89.1%. Between late March and 30 June, stablecoins fell 2.3% while non-stablecoin value rose 13.3%. What I took from the data: 1. Access decides where trading happens. Among 110 non-stablecoin products worth $10mn or more, open-access tokens held 41% of value and generated 99.8% of June spot trading. Permissioned tokens held 59% and generated 0.2%. Of the 48 whitelist-only products, 46 fell below 1% monthly turnover. The report notes that product mix skews this, since 81% of Rates value is permissioned. 2. Liquidity depends on what the product is for. June turnover was 0.1% for Rates and 204.6% for Equities. Only 29 of 110 products cleared both the liquidity and distribution tests. A Treasury fund needs dependable redemption. An equity token needs execution. Collateral needs financing and a workable exit. 3. Demand for exposure is running ahead of ownership. Equity perps on Hyperliquid and Lighter traded $67.8bn in June against $4.2bn of onchain tokenized-equity spot volume, roughly 16x. That is not a comparison of invested capital. 4. Distribution is not participation. On Robinhood Chain, tracked value went from $5.6mn to $28.4mn in July. By 7 August, 669 addresses (1.0% of holders) held 95.1% of value. 5. Policy. The CLARITY Act did not advance in the Senate on 15 September. Two days later the SEC issued a five-year conditional exemption for certain tokenized-stock venues and liquidity providers. Source: Pantera Capital, The State of Tokenization, September 2026. #Tokenisation #Payments #Regulations

  • Pantera's report highlights that market growth in tokenization is driven by factors beyond just issuance, with access and liquidity being key determinants of trading activity.
  • While stablecoins dominate the current market, non-stablecoin assets are showing significant growth, though liquidity varies greatly by asset type and access model (open vs. permissioned).
  • The report also touches on the demand for exposure outpacing ownership, the concentration of wealth among holders, and recent policy developments including SEC exemptions for tokenized stocks.

  • This post proposes a risk framework for tokenized equities on Aave V3 X Layer, highlighting that current parameters are insufficient due to the intermittent nature of arbitrage for these assets.
  • It introduces MarketClock, a tool that measures when the primary market for tokenized equities is closed, leading to a significant portion of the week where arbitrage is switched off.
