Just got back from the European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona.

Just got back from the European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona. My main takeaway: banks want to go on-chain, but they can't get there the way crypto does.  → RWA infrastructure was everywhere. Tokenized real estate, tokenized funds, tokenized deposits. Honestly, it felt like every second company there was doing tokenization 🔥 → Talked to quite a few people from banks and funds. They are looking for reliable rails to manage liquidity at scale, and many of them are really interested in using RWA tokens as collateral in DeFi money markets. They want it, they just don't know yet how to do it properly or how to hedge the risks. → Monika Schöning from ING said something I liked: tokenized deposits are just deposits, the hard part is payments.  Most of a bank's logic sits in settlement between counterparties inside its own system. Accepting a payment from a chain and processing it inside a completely different architecture is a serious integration challenge. → Then there's liquidity, which I don't think gets talked about enough. In a bank, A sends $100 to B and B sends $95 back. The bank only settles the $5 difference. On-chain, everyone settles from their own wallet, so the same thing needs $195 of liquidity to move $5. So, where will banks source that liquidity once they move on-chain? Nobody has a good answer yet. People keep saying full adoption will take 10 to 20 years. Tbh, I don't buy it. If we start building now, the core of it can be ready in 5. This is the kind of problem we want to solve at Whitechain. We're still early and mostly listening right now, but after Barcelona, we have a much better idea of what to build first. Building something that needs the right blockchain partner? Send me a DM, let's have a chat 👀     #Blockchain #RWA #Tokenization #Payments #Whitechain

  • Banks are interested in on-chain operations and RWA tokenization for collateral in DeFi, but face significant integration and liquidity challenges.
  • Key hurdles include payment processing between traditional and blockchain systems and the vastly different liquidity requirements for on-chain settlements.
  • Despite these challenges, there's optimism that core infrastructure can be built within 5 years, with companies like Whitechain aiming to address these problems.
